Ignite God’s Vision

Greater Devotional: A Forty-Day Experience to Ignite God's Vision for Your LifeGreater Devotional: A Forty-Day Experience to Ignite God’s Vision for Your Life by Steven Furtick

My rating:

Recently I became aware of a GodTube video of Pastor Furtick that I, as an evangelical Christian, find truly offensive.  For that reason,  I will not promote any products of Pastor Furtick and have removed my reviews of his books from my blog.

Misfits Welcome

Misfits Welcome: Find Yourself in Jesus and Bring the World Along for the RideMisfits Welcome: Find Yourself in Jesus and Bring the World Along for the Ride by Matthew Barnett

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

“Being a misfit does not disqualify you from a dynamic life—it prepares you for it. Matthew Barnett knows a thing or two about misfits. As founder of the Dream Center in Los Angeles, a 24-hour church that ministers to 35,000 hurting people a week, Barnett has seen a little of everything. Gangsters, addicts, orphans, taggers, cutters, the sick, the suffering, the hopeless…all the misfits of the world come through the church’s doors in search of hope.”

The Least of These… This is the premise for this powerful book, “Misfits Welcome: Find Yourself in Jesus and Bring the World Along for the Ride” by author, Matthew Barnett. For more than 20 years Matthew Barnett has served the “misfits” that walk in our midst – those that most of society has thrown away – as founder of the Dream Center in Los Angeles, California. He has served them with through programs and out reach ministry. But through it all, he has served them in love. Continue reading

“Receive God’s power for the journey ahead. Are you in need of strength, encouragement, and hope? Empowered by His Presence will set you free to face life head-on and follow God’s glorious vision. My rating: 4 of 5 stars

“A lot has been said about Satan and demons in music and movies, on the Internet and TV, but it can be difficult to figure out what’s true and what’s folklore. Professor Mark Muska uses the Bible to answer the most-asked questions about Satan and demons, including: Who is Satan? Does Satan really have horns, hoofs, and a tail? Can Satan read our thoughts? What is demon possession? Can anything protect us from demonic attacks?

You’ll discover exactly what God’s Word says–as well as what it doesn’t say–about these mysterious beings.”

The Making of an Ordinary Saint

This is another of the books that is on my 2015 list of books to read again… digging deeper and going deeper – exploring each of these disciplines…   (that list will show up on this blog at the beginning of December. I hope that you will join me in reading through the list)

The Making of an Ordinary Saint: My Journey from Frustration to Joy with the Spiritual DisciplinesThe Making of an Ordinary Saint: My Journey from Frustration to Joy with the Spiritual Disciplines by Nathan Foster

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

“Nathan Foster was just a child when his father’s classic Celebration of Discipline brought the spiritual disciplines into the popular evangelical consciousness. More than thirty years later, Nathan made his own journey into the spiritual disciplines. As he sought day by day to develop habits that would enable him to live more like Jesus, he encountered problems both universal and unique. In this engaging narrative, he draws insights from saints of old to uncover fresh ways of living for the contemporary, postmodern Christian.”

Living a Life Where Anything is Possible

Over the last year or so, I have had the privilege of reading some amazing books.  There are some that are “ok” and then there are those that show up in God’s timing and are deposited into your life at that moment when He knows you are ready, and need to, hear the message.   This is one of those books.

It took over 150 pages before the words spoken in prophecy over me were revealed to me in the same words that were spoken.  I have been truly blessed by this book.

This is one of the books that is on my 2015 list of books to read again… digging deeper and going deeper (that list will show up on this blog at the beginning of December.  I hope that you will join me in reading through the list)

And now for the review…

Breakthrough Faith: Entering Into a Life of Victory, Power, and MiraclesBreakthrough Faith: Entering Into a Life of Victory, Power, and Miracles by Larry Sparks

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

“We all experience the impossibilities of life, just like the four men in the Bible who sought Jesus’ healing touch for their paralyzed friend. The question is—how will you respond?

You have two options. You can accept your circumstances as God’s will and simply give up… or, you can break through and receive everything God has waiting for you.”

Hearing His Voice

The One Year Hearing His Voice Devotional: 365 Days of Intimate Communication with GodThe One Year Hearing His Voice Devotional: 365 Days of Intimate Communication with God by Chris Tiegreen

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

“This year, learn to listen for the voice of the One who loves you most. We know for sure that God speaks to His people. Throughout the pages of Scripture, time after time, He guides, instructs, corrects, inspires, encourages, and reveals. Inspired writers even call Him “the Word.” He has always been vocal, and He always will be.

But what does He say to you? How does He say it? How can you know when you’ve heard Him?”

The One Year – Hearing His Voice Devotional by Chris Tiegreen is a great daily devotional to add to your daily quiet time to aid you in learning to hearing God’s voice. And while this isn’t always something we can readily discern, Mr. Tiegreen, helps us to learn to discover patterns and to adopt practices that will enable us to more readily hear His voice. Bethlehem Road

This is another wonderful study by Michael Whitworth!

Other reviews of his Bible Study’s on this blog:

The Derision of Heaven – A Guide to the Book of Daniel

Living & Longing for the Lord – A Guide to 1 & 2 Thessalonians –

Bethlehem Road: A Guide to RuthBethlehem Road: A Guide to Ruth by Michael Whitworth

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

“Out of the immense moral darkness of the Judges period comes a story of romance, redemption, and hope. The tale of Ruth has inspired countless generations. But Ruth isn’t the star in this romantic drama; center stage belongs to God and his providence. Naomi and Ruth traveled the Bethlehem Road—one of famine, abandonment, grief, and loss—unaware that the Lord had gone before them to redeem their heartache.”

Breathing Room: Letting Go So You Can Fully LiveBreathing Room: Letting Go So You Can Fully Live by Leeana Tankersley

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

“AN INVITATION TO BREATHE. Catastrophe or no catastrophe, if you are unhinged, disoriented, suffocating, or otherwise generally dragging, I’m inviting you to pull up a chair at this table . . .

Breathing Room is a beautiful release of self-condemnation, a discovery of the rest that comes when we offer ourselves some space to breathe. Vulnerable and winsome, Leeana Tankersley shows you how to stop beating yourself up, how to be radically on your own team, and how to truly experience grace. If you’ve been putting on a strong front and yet are secretly coming apart, you’ll find in these pages a trusted friend.”

A Rooster Once Crowed – Leader’s Guide

A Rooster Once Crowed: Leader Small Group Study GuideA Rooster Once Crowed: Leader Small Group Study Guide by Bryant Cornett

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

“A Rooster Once Crowed was built for group study. If you loved the commentary on the greatest story ever told, you’ll love it even more in community. Leading a study can be daunting. Or if you’ve done it before, you know that the time involved in preparation can be a barrier. Consider this Leader Small Group Study Guide like a guidebook to a city written by a friend who loves it and has spent years exploring it. This Leader Small Group Study Guide guarantees a deeply profound experience for you and your group.”

This Leader’s Guide is a great addendum to the book – A Rooster Once Crowed. The Leader’s Guide – via e-book – is packed full of resources that will make the Leader’s role a lot easier. The author has supplied thought-provoking questions for discussion in your small group. In addition, there are Leader’s Only pages with downloadable materials, as well as prayers and a music playlist to go along with the lessons.

It really is a complete guide especially helpful for a novice leader where more time can be spent on the subject versus the overwhelming task of putting together the study, notes, etc. Great job!
