The Derision of Heaven by Michael Whitworth
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
“Every day it seems the world becomes increasingly hostile to Christianity. Values are being scuttled, faith is scorned, and God’s people are being marginalized. These difficult times pose two questions to Christians. How can we be the “light of the word” in such abject darkness? And how can God still be in control of all things?”
To answer the two questions the author, Michael Whitworth, poses on the back book cover you must read The Derision of Heaven. This book serves as more than a mere commentary to the book of Daniel. It is a book of dreams and visions… of strength and power… and of God’s Sovereignty that gave Daniel the singular courage to live a life that glorifies God alone.
With his unique style, the author unwraps the Book of Daniel for us with stories, historical facts, personal anecdotes and an intriguing sense of humor. At the end of each chapter you will find what the author calls “Talking Points”. Since I did not read this as part of a group study, I called them ponder points. And ponder I did. I encourage you to read this book and ponder for yourself. This book is a great reference guide to anyone wishing to study the Book of Daniel in a deeper way.
