Breaking Free From Strongholds

Can a person be a born-again, blood-bought, Jesus-loving, child of the Most High King and still struggle with strongholds in their life?  According to a book that I just finished reading by Pastor Bobby Davis – yes,… they can.

Here is an excerpt that I found so amazingly telling…

“As I said when we began this chapter, salvation is a journey.  It is a process.  True salvation is not a one-time event, as most people think.  You go the the altar;  you accept Jesus as Lord of your life; you get up and go on with your life. Sure, at that  moment you were transferred from one kingdom to another, (I love that line!) but the same strongholds you stuggled with before kneeling at that altar are the same one you will struggle with when you get up.” – Saved But Still Enslaved – page 20 Continue reading

At Peace in the Storm

Below is the online review of a book that I had the priviledge to review.  This book touched my heart on so many levels that it is hard to describe.  When your own storm is brewing on the horizon, or if you are riding it out right now…  I recommend this book to help you to remember that you can find strength and encouragement in that storm.

“EXPERIENCE THE JOY OF KNOWING THE GOD WHO IS ALWAYS THERE TO REACH OUT A HAND AND PULL YOU OUT OF THE WAVES”

I pray you will be blessed as I was. Continue reading

Reclaim Your Soul

Reclaim Your Soul: Your Journey to Personal EmpowermentReclaim Your Soul: Your Journey to Personal Empowerment by Cindy Trimm

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

“Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. (3Jn 2). Have you ever wondered… If everyone wants to succeed, why do so few people become successful? Can certain relationship patterns prevent me from stepping in my destiny? Are there habits or behaviors in my life that keep me from fulfilling my purpose? Develop the skills you need to succeed in life! While (the Authors’ first book) The 40 day Soul Fast focused on the 40 characteristics of an authentic person… Reclaim Your Soul focuses on the 40 behaviors of a resilient person.”

Reclaim Your Soul – Your Journey to Personal Empowerment– is the second installment in the “Soul Series” penned by this author. This book focuses on reclaiming our soul from destructive and unhealthy “soul ties” we have adopted in the past, by daily building a new set of life skills that empower new habits and behaviors. These new habits and behaviors help us to create a foundation for living the life of your dreams by the renewing of your mind.

This book is divided into two parts. Part 1 “The Power That Works In You” describes God’s Plan A, You by Divine Design and the Power To Change. Part 2 – “The Road to Resiliency: 40 Disciples of a Resilient Person: is an eight week study on confronting our Natural, Emotional, Relational Soul Ties and Dysfunctional Relationships. Once confronted, we begin to Break the Cycle and Build New Boundaries. The study concludes with Encountering Christ and Reclaiming Your Soul.

While this book does rely, and stand, on Biblical Scriptures, the author does mix quotes and thinking from New Age Guru’s, Thinkers and Philosophers. To me, that was at times confusing and I found it unsettling.

This book contains a significant amount of information that could be overwhelming– depending on your perception of the condition of your soul – (in my opinion) and might require a second or third read to absorb all that it contains.

Mark of Evil

Mark of Evil (The End Series, #4)Mark of Evil by Tim LaHaye

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Mark of Evil by Tim LaHaye and Craig Parshall

“Economies have collapsed, freedom has been suppressed, and peace is a distant memory. The world is falling apart. Technology is growing by leaps and bounds with BID-Tag implants, robotic police units, and drone-bots flying overhead… all designed to control and dominate those who resist the Antichrist’s reign of evil. Biblical prophecy is fulfilled each new day.”

Mark of Evil is book four, and the final chapter of The End Series by Tim LaHaye and Craig Parshall.

Tim LaHaye is a co-author of renowned The Left Behind Series. Just like that series, The End Series grabs a hold of you and does not let you go. It takes you on along as the Remnant fight just to survive and try to save just one more and one more soul for the Kingdom. You will find yourself crying and laughing and celebrating and mourning with these characters as they battle the prophetic events of the last days that seem as though they might just have been clipped from today’s news as their world, and ours, steps closer and closer to the reign of the Antichrist and the return of our Lord Jesus in glory.

The End Series is a page-turner that will keep you so engrossed that it might just cost you a couple nights sleep.

The Power Of A Half Hour

There are books, and the there are BOOKS

As many of your know, I am blessed to be able to read and review books from several different publishing company’s.  Over the last few months, I have recieved and read some amazing books.  And the one I am writing about today is no exception.

The Power Of A Half Hour by Pastor Tommy Barnett is AMAZING!!!

I’ve stuggled for some quite a while with own use, or waste, of my time.  I sometimes feel like I lack focus and meaning to each of my 24-hours and that sometimes I’m just going through the motions of my days.  Sure I do get alot done, actually I accomplish quite a bit…  but it’s all just so much busy work. Prone To Love

“I know many who can hypothesize about Love.  I know many who can debate the theology, they can tell me the Greek definitions and Hebrew pronunciation, and there is nothing wrong with that.  There is beauty in loving God with all of our minds.  But infinitely more important is loving God with all of our heart.  Love’s not rote discipline:  it’s a response birthed from an encounter, from a revelation of our heavenly Father.” Prone To Love – pg, 50

Those of you that follow this blog know that I read…. alot.  I make no secret that I receive books via several publishing companies and other sites at no charge to me, in exchange for my review of the book.  I am not required to give a positive review.

I have been blessed to read some amazing and insightful books.  I’ve also read a few that just didn’t do it for me.  And I’ve also discovered that I do enjoy reading good Christian fiction – from time to time.

That being said…  Of the nearly 40 books that I have read in the last 6 months, I have not encountered a book that has affected me like “Prone To Love” by Jason Clark. Continue reading

A Starfish At A Time

A Starfish at a TimeA Starfish at a Time by Dana Wynn Steele

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

“Join the Steele’s on the never ending roller coaster ride of their family life as they share the ups, twist and turns of an ever changing family which now numbers nineteen, with more anticipated. Dana Wynn Steele shares the stories of their special needs children and their adoptions including one during her battle with breast cancer.”

This book took me off guard just a bit. From it’s sweet colorful cover, and it’s precious title, I expected a totally different story that what came to life under the cover. This is a remarkable book with true tales of the lives of babies and children, most times born into drugs, abuse and chaos and being trapped in a system that was at it’s best, designed to preserve and protect them. Though at times, that system so completely failed them.

The author – Dana Steele and her husband, Alan, saw this travesty and opened their hearts and home to these children. From newborn babies to young adults – every one of them just wanting a forever family, a family to call their own, the Steele’s took each of them in and loved them. Yes… like saving one starfish at a time.

A warning to the reader, there are some passages and stories about the abuses and horrors these children endured that some may find disturbing. But, for better, for worse, they are the stories of these children.

Stop Waiting… Start Winning – A Review

Stop Waiting… Start WINNING!: 10 Steps to Living Your Vision NOW!Stop Waiting… Start WINNING!: 10 Steps to Living Your Vision NOW! by Teresa Hairston

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

“God created you to be visionary! You may not feel like one. Or maybe you are completely burnt out on vision because you’re had so much of it – and nothing has happened… yet. In Stop Waiting… Start Winning! Dr. Teresa Hairston shares ten life-changing principles that you can apply to see your dreams become reality.”

When this book arrived, I thought… oh here we go, it looks like the cover for a 3AM infomercial! I read the back of the book… “Live Your Vision Now!” “God created you to be a visionary!” “ She ran with vision in sprite of the obstacles…” I am so pleased to report that I was sorely mistaken.

This book is a joy to read and is so enlightening. Ms. Hairston just breaks it all down and lays it all out… so profound. This book captured me from the first chapter. The essentials that she lays out chapter-by-chapter are not just ten principal spread out over four phases. They are nuggets of wisdom and knowledge, utilizing biblical truths, as well as processes and prayers that Ms. Hairston herself employed in fulfilling the destiny that God had planned for her life.
