The Country Road through the Book of Matthew by Mike Lovett
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
The Country Road through the Book of Matthew is just that, a road that travels through the entirety of Matthew with stops along the way where the reader can pause and explore on their own. Desiring to live out Paul’s admonition to Timothy that all scripture is inspired by God and useful to us, Mike keeps the reader on the road in hopes that each day will bring new growth in their relationship with Christ as they read about His birth, life, ministry, death, and resurrection.
The Country Road through the Book of Matthew by Mike Lovett is wonderful book that I had the privilege to read and now review. I thoroughly enjoyed walking the Country Road. The book is setup in such a way that it can be used as a daily devotional. However, I found myself wanting to linger longer along the road for more than a day from time to time.
There is a quiet gentleness that surrounds this book. It is not, as the author says, a “theological treatise” on the Book of Matthew. It is “a work of simple observations designed to spur the reader to deeper spiritual introspection.” And it does that well. I found myself in times of deep reflection and realizing hours later, or even the next day I was still pondering something I read the night before.
This book is a real don’t miss. I encourage you to pick up a copy, and truly take the time to read, reflect, and be ready for an encounter with the Author of Life.
