Seven days ago, we had the privilege of attending “The Send” in Orlando Florida. It’s purpose -”The Send is a stadium gathering and national campaign to catalyze every believer into a lifestyle of Christ-like action.”
The intent was to bring together a gathering of 60,000 believers from all ages and walks of life to make a commitment to do whatever it would take to see the re-evangelization of America, and the nations of the world, and the finishing of the Great Commission. By some estimates there were only 59,000 believers, other estimates were upwards of 72,000 and on the day of the event with many more tens of thousands tuning in from around the globe as the entire 12-hour event was live streamed.
This 12 hour day with the sun shining brightly brought the thermometer to 92 degrees… in an open stadium in Florida. Needless to say, it was warm. But that didn’t matter. The entire infield of the stadium was filled, along with the stands… Video From The Send Instagram Link. Believers of every age attended this event; from the youngest in strollers with their parents, to others in wheelchairs, to others in the senior years of their lives. It was clear to me that morning as we waited for the doors to open that we Christians are hungry. We Christ followers are hungry for a mighty move of God; we are hungry for a fresh anointing from Heaven on our lives. We are hungry to know what He wants from us. We want Heavenly direction, we want purpose and clarity.
No longer can those of us who call ourselves followers of Jesus Christ sit idly by and watch “the world” take over our futures, and the futures of our children and grand-children. It is time to actually become a Church without walls and step outside, it’s time to get out of our comfort zone, it is time to get up out of the pew and Go. It is time to put feet to the greatest command of Jesus. It’s time.
“And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20 ESV
Go. Go and make disciples. Go, get up and go.
During “The Send”, there was a focus on four distinct mission fields – Our High Schools, Our Colleges, Our Neighborhoods and the Nations of the World.
You may be thinking. That’s great, but not all of us are called to go to the farthest foreign countries. Yup, I get it. I don’t believe that foreign missionary work is my calling either. Okay, but what about your family, your friends, your co-workers, your neighborhood… your city, your county, your state? For you younger folks, what about your High School? What about your college campus?
It is estimated that there are approximately 100,000,000 Christians in the United States. What if each of those 100,000,000 brought just one person to Christ this year? And of those 100,000,000, what if they were then to become the hands and feet of Jesus in The Great Commission as well? What an amazing impact that would have on this world.
We have received a precious gift: “the faith that was once for all entrusted to God’s holy people” Jude 1:3 ESV. Jesus’ words in the Great Commission reveal the heart of God, who desires “all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth” 1 Timothy 2:4 ESV.
The Great Commission compels us to share the good news until everyone has heard. Like the servants in Jesus’ parable, we are to be about the business of the Kingdom, making disciples of all nations.
We can, of course, sit by and let the younger or healthier or more outspoken, or more educated do the work – but Jesus wasn’t just talking to them, He wasn’t just speaking to the Apostles, He was talking to everyone. The Great Commission did not die with the Apostles. God’s Word is eternal; He was speaking to every one of us. Go and Make Disciples!
So what now? Consider this… “Before there was ever a Jesus Movement, there was a Jesus Fast”. (Mark 1:9-13) Before Jesus began His Ministry, He spent 40 days in fasting and prayer. I would encourage you to go the “The Send” website, hear about the call to Fasting and Prayer seeking God’s will for your life, your walk, watch the 5 videos of the entire 12 hour event, listen to the dozens and dozens of world-renowned speakers and musicians. Hear what was preached, hear what was prayed, and hear what was prophesied on that day. Then consider where and when and how you can become the hands and feet of Jesus.
