I asked to read and review this book based on the front cover. My neice recently adopted a dog that looks just like Henry (Henry is a dog, btw). From time to time my neice will post pics of Daphne (her dog) and her antics ie… pile of flip flops with just one of each pair eaten, etc. I remember my days of raising a border collie pup and the boundless energy that never ends. So, the other day this book arrived… OH MY GOODNESS!!!! This is the funniest book that I have ever read. The author has an amazing writing style that brings you right into her life, her home, her car, the vet office HA!… You are immediately swept away by Henry.
Do yourself a favor, pick up this book if not for yourself, then for your neighbor, co-worker, whoever… let those that are temporarily suffering with raising their own pup that they are not alone. You will love this book!!!!
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
“You don’t always know what you’re getting into when you bring home a puppy. Enter Henry, a boxer who suffers from Supreme Dictator of the Universe Syndrome. He vandalizes his obedience school, leaps through windows, cheats death at every turn, and generally causes his long-suffering owner Erin Taylor Young to wonder what on earth she did that God would send this dog to derail her life.
Through his laugh-out-loud antics and escapades, Henry will steal readers’ hearts. Anyone who has ever owned a dog, especially a canine catastrophe like Henry, will enjoy this lighthearted book about a dog who brings new meaning to the concept of unconditional love.”
My thought on reading “Surviving Henry”… It would probably be best to not read this book while you are drinking any kind of liquid, as it will most likely squirt out your nose. It would also probably be best to assure that you have recently “used the facilities” prior to sitting down to read the book… another option is “Depends”… and my last suggestion, do not read this book if you are anywhere that requires any sense of decorum… ‘cuz it just can’t happen.
This book will make you laugh out loud until tears run down your face and then make you laugh some more. I laughed till my stomach hurt and I was sad when Henry was hurt and I cheered when he was back to “normal”. It is exactly as the subtitle says… “Adventures in Loving a Canine Catastrophe”
This is a marvelous book; I loved it from the first page to the last. Ms. Young is a wonderfully gifted storyteller and author. If you have ever brought home a puppy, or know someone who has… you/they must read this book. It will warm your heart all the way through. Thank you Ms Young for this gift.
