Lost & Found – Finding HOPE in the Detours of Life by Sarah Jakes
What a remarkable story!!! I was captivated by this book from the first page… and by the end, I was in awe of the wisdom of this young woman.
While I have not experienced any of the circumstances that Ms. Jakes has, I somehow found myself in this story. Perhaps because I too thought that God had so given up on me… that He was just soooo tired of giving me just one more chance to “get it right”. In this book, I found the words to my own song:
“I don’t know what your story is, but I gave you the worst parts of mine so that you could know that someone else hit rock bottom, too. You’re not alone. We are not alone. We have to embrace these ugly trust about ourselves, or we’ll spend a lifetime never maximaizing the Ever-Present Grace surround us.” (page 227)
The Ever-Present Grace that surrounds us! HIS Grace!
I don’t know if you’re lost right now or finding your way. But if the sun rises tomorrow, you have a chance to test the limits of God’s grace. He’s capable of making you better. He can take every moment you thought was wasted and use it… You have to try to trust Him with the parts of you that still hurt. He’s not expecting perfection. All He needs is a YES” (page 227-228)
All He needs is a YES! How simple, yet so profound.
As always, I am required to post an online review of the books I receive, here is that review:
Lost & Found: Finding Hope in the Detours of Life by Sarah Jakes
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
“Like every girl, Sarah Jakes dreamed of a life full of love, laughter, and happy endings. But her dreams changed dramatically when she because pregnant at age thirteen, a reality only compounded by the fact that her father, Bishop T.D. Jakes, was one of the most influential mega-church pastors in the nation.“ This is her story.
Lost and Found is a riveting story. I found that I did not want to put the book down. The thought of being pregnant at thirteen is a whole world of problems, but then add on the additional burden of who her dad was. If that wasn’t enough, throw in a dose of being shunned and gossiped about by God’s people, desperation and fear, and top it off with a seriously dysfunctional love relationship that ends in a failed marriage – all while you are barely out of your teens, and the whole world is watching.
This story is honest and raw. Is it a perfect story about sin, loss and redemption? Yes to a point. But it’s more about the struggles of a young woman that thinks that she is so bad that God has totally given up on her… only to find that He has surrounded her the entire time and is delivering her into a destiny that only He could orchestrate.
