When Mountains Won’t Move; How to Survive a Struggling Faith by Jacob Hawk is not a big book both in size and number of pages, but it certainly is big on wisdom. Death of a child, loss of a job, foreclosure of the house, your spouse is walking out, the bills can’t be paid, a serious illness is diagnosed… those are the mountains that show up in the lives of believers and non-believers alike with more regularity than we want. They are mountains that seem impossible for us to move under our own strength.
For the believer, that is where our faith struggle happens. That is where we can get lost. We just don’t know what to do to make the mountains move.
Over the course of the eight chapters in this book, the author shows us how to live in a Matthew 17:20 life, “Truly I say to you, if you will have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’, and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.” I found this book an easy read, yet not at all simplistic. The author has tackled a difficult subject with encouragement for the reader that is going through a difficult season in their life.
