The Forty-Day Devotional Challenge – To Encourage Your Heart and Deepen Your Faith by Kathi Macais is a great devotional for those who don’t have the luxury of time. Each of the undated 40 days contains a bite-sized reading along with a specific scripture verse. These readings contain sometimes-personal stories that the Author shares with us that help to bring home the message of the day. Each day reading ending with a challenge – a thought to ponder – a task to think about and perhaps undertake. In addition, there is ample room to add your own thoughts of the day in the journal section provided on each page.
The size of this devotional (40 days) of course makes it perfect for Lent to reflect on the goodness of our Lord and draw closer to His heart. However, I am not convinced that these pages should be rushed. I can see where, depending on my life circumstances, I would take more than one, two or a few days to ponder and write about a single day’s devotion. Take her advice – take your time. Let the words you read deepen your faith and encourage your heart.
