“Have you ever considered how often we neglect expressing genuine gratitude? The bank teller. The store clerk. The person driving our kids to school. The restaurant waitress. The mailman. Even the customer service representative who takes our call – we may offer a casual “thank you” out of habit, but how much more impactful would it be if that thanks was a genuine acknowledgment of and appreciation for their efforts? What if we took that renewed sprit of thankfulness and applied it to our relationship with God?”
This is an interesting book. While it is only 110 pages, it is packed with a significant amount of information about thankfulness. Using the story of Jesus’ healing the ten lepers, along with biblical teachings and personal stories and anecdotes, the author walks us through different areas of thankfulness, such as: Biblical Testimonies of Thanksgiving, Instructions to Live By, Thanksgiving in Retrospect, A Journey of Obedience, and many more.
In my opinion, it is all too common that we are witness to a society that portrays such a sense of entitlement. And as the author, Yolanda Shanks, states in Chapter one… “When this attitude if entitlement bulldozes it ways into a room, the attitude of thankfulness quietly exits the room… because the attitude of entitlement cannot share the same space with thankfulness.”
I did enjoy reading this book, however I did find myself having to read and reread certain pages for clarity. I wonder if perhaps it might have been worth expounding on certain topics just a bit more. I would recommend this book for anyone wishing to check themselves and their attitude of gratitude towards the ONE that provides it all.
