For the last 6 years, I have been working off and, on a book, entitled – “Who Do You Think You Are?”. On July 30, 2024, I pushed the button to publish the paperback of the finally finished book. I took a deep breath and thanked God for helping me to finish it and finally bring it to completion.
This is not the first book I’ve self-published and will not be my last. It has been my experience that the typical time from submitting a book to publish and having it approved is about 8 hours. After a full day, I received a message that the book was published! Yay! Not.
It seems the book would only be available in 7 foreign countries… not in the US. Of course I reached out to the publisher. Let’s cut to the chase… it’s been 8 weeks, and the paperback version of this book is still not available. A dozen emails and telephone conversations later and no one can give me a reason why.
What I know is that I have spent at least 70 hours (not counting the days, weeks, months, before submitting for publication) trying to work through the problem with the publisher and find a resolution. That was until 2:01 AM, September 5, 2024. That is when I woke up with the words, “leave it on the cutting room floor” ringing in my ears. I knew at that moment just what needed to happen.
So, let’s take a step backwards shall we and I’ll explain.
In 2014, a movie called “Son of God” was produced by actress Roma Downey and husband, Mark Burnett.
Controversy about the movie erupted when “Someone made a comment that the actor who played the devil vaguely resembled our president, and suddenly the media went nuts,”. “The next day, when I was sure everyone would only be talking about Jesus, they were talking about Satan instead.” She added: “For our movie, Son of God, I wanted all of the focus to be on Jesus. I want His name to be on the lips of everyone who sees this movie, so we cast Satan out. It gives me great pleasure to tell you that the devil is on the cutting-room floor.” * (emphasis mine)
Refusing to bring glory to satan, they simply ended the controversy, by dropping satan to the cutting room floor.
Earlier this month, when I woke up hearing the words, “leave it on the cutting room floor”, I knew just what to do. It’s quite simple really. I will continue to let the publishing company do what they are doing. When, and if (and that is a BIG when and if) they resolve the “issue” of why this book won’t publish, I will thank them for resolving the issue and let it continue through the process.
Battling with the publisher, re-writing entire chapters that might be of issue, reformatting the interior, recreating the cover… is not where my focus should be. I truly believe this book is something special and I want to see it read and used by women to find their peace … again.
The stress and anxiety of these last few weeks has from time to time taken me from a place of concern and worry to anger and unGodly attitude. I refuse to give the enemy another minute of my peace. I refuse to allow this swirling vortex of confusion, stress and anxiety to keep me from bringing my next title – Truthfully Speaking – to completion.
