There’s a Train Coming

Let’s say that you live in a fine house with your charming family. Let’s say that your house is adjacent to some train tracks. For many years, you and your charming family have been living life – working, playing, loving each other, enjoying the fruits of your hard work and the love of your family, friends and neighbors. You have had some ups and downs, but for the most part life has been pretty good.

Now let’s say that I hear there is trouble headed your way. A runaway train careening down the tracks at a hundred plus miles per hour is definitely going to derail and crash right through your happy home and life. It is going to obliterate you, your family and your home. Everything you know and love will come to an end. You may survive… or not. Your spouse may survive… or not. Your children may survive… or not.  If you do, you will be left devastated and alone.

My question to you is – should I warn you that death and total destruction are headed your way? Your answer is of course… YES! Why would I keep that information to myself? Why would I not warn someone that I love and treasure that certain death is upon them? Of course I would. I would move heaven and earth if it would help in order to get you to hear me that total eradication is on your life.

Yet many would tell me, “I’ve lived here like this for years and years and nothing like that has ever happened. I don’t believe what you are saying. We are perfectly safe in our little home.” But it is going to happen, and you don’t or can’t or won’t see it.

In an instant, the warnings were real. Your final breath is upon you. Everything you have known, done, owned or worked for… nothing… none of it can save you from the train that is going to end your life.

Did you hear the warnings? Did you heed the warnings?  Did you choose to ignore the warnings? Death and eternity are forever.

If I told you that your life, all life, as we know it today is going to end would you believe me? Yes, I know that we are all going to die someday, that is not what I am here to tell you about. I am here speaking about the “End of the Age”.

Faith

“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see”. Hebrews 11:1

Sure and Certain

These two qualities, sure and certain, require a secure beginning and ending point. The foundation of FAITH is belief in God’s character; that He IS who He says He is. The finish point of FAITH is belief in His promises; He WILL DO what HE says HE will do.

“… without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him” Hebrews 11:6

But believing that God exists is only the beginning; even the demons believe that much. “You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder.” James 2:19. God will not settle for mere acknowledgment of His existence. He wants a personal, dynamic relationship with every person… a relationship that will transform your life. The reward for those that seek Him… His intimate presence surrounding you, guiding you, indwelling you, and loving you.

In whom or on what do you place your faith?

The Truth of Guarding Your Heart and Mind

This is part two – in continuation of last week article “The TRUTH of False Teacher, Preachers and Prophets

We all want to think that the preacher we sit under is an anointed man of God and he is there to teach and speak the TRUTHS of the Word of God. But sometimes things happen and that person (man or woman) stumbles or falls. Somehow they begin following the wrong path. Perhaps it is greed, the allure of notoriety, the attention, or the perceived worship of an entire congregation of folks wanting to hear what they alone have to say… perhaps it is arrogance or pride… whatever it is; sometimes our leaders fall. Sometimes they take on the mantle of being the singular authority in all things Biblical. Their interpretation and understanding becomes TRUTH; and while it is acceptable and palatable to those listening, it may not be the TRUTH of the Bible.

Accurate and sound doctrine is fundamental to our salvation and increase in spiritual development. God warns us many times in the Scriptures to be alert and watchful of false teaching. As Christians, we need to be able to identify counterfeit teachers in order to know when we are being led down a wrong path. As an individual, we should be already in tune with the urgings, or promptings of Holy Spirit. Call it intuition if you want, but you know when something just isn’t right.  You recognize the small voice inside telling you to be warned. When that feeling deep in you starts to stir, what then?

2 Peter 2:1 “But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction.”

Matthew 7:15-20 Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thorn bushes, or figs from thistles? Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit.  Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.”

Truth

“…we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, Who is the head of His body, the church”
Ephesians 4:15 NLT

“That I may walk in Your truth” Ps 86:1

What is truth?   Well a Google search on “what is truth” returned 683,000,000 hits – so someone, or quite a few someone’s, out there knows what truth is. Or at least they are offering a definition of what truth might be. But are they offering us their truth? Is their truth true? Or is it my truth? Is my truth true? Just who’s truth is it and who and what makes it true? Now that’s a whole bunch of questions!

Since 683,000,000 Google hits would be a bit more time consuming that I am ready for… I will start at the beginning. What is truth?

How do we define truth? It’s simple to say that truth is something that is true. But does that really say what truth is? Continue reading
