Who is Jesus? That is a question that has been asked for centuries. There are many different answers, depending on who you ask.

Here are 15 “answers” to the question of “Who is Jesus?” taken from the “Christianity Cults & Religion” – a Rose Publishing publication by Dr. Robert Jeffress – Pathway to Victory.

Religion / Cult	Who is Jesus?
Biblical Christianity	Jesus is God, the second person of the Trinity. As God the Son, He has always existed and was never created. He is fully God and fully man (the two natures joined, not mixed). As the second person of the Trinity, He is coequal with God the father and the Holy Spirit. In becoming man, He was begotten through the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. Jesus is the only way to the Father, salvation, and eternal life. He died on a cross according to God’s plan, as the full sacrifice and payment for our sins. He rose from the dead on the third day, spiritually and physically immortal. For the next 40 days He was seen by more than 500 eye-witnesses. His wounds were touched and He ate meals. He physically ascended to heaven. Jesus will come again visibly and physically at the end of the world to establish God’s kingdom and judge the world.
Jehovah Witness	Jesus is not God. Before He lived on earth, He was Michael, the Archangel. Jehovah made the universe through Him. On earth He was a man who lived a perfect life. After dying on a stake (not a cross), He was resurrected as a spirit; His body was destroyed. Jesus is not coming again. He “returned” invisibly in 1914 in spirit. Very soon, He and the angels will destroy all non-Jehovah Witnesses.
Mormonism	Jesus is a separate god from the Father (Elohim). He was created as a spirit child by the Father and mother in Heaven, and is the “elder brother” of all men and spirit beings (including lucifer). His body was created through sexual union between Elohim and Mary. Jesus was married. His death on the cross does not provide full atonement for all sin, but does provide everyone with resurrection.
Seventh-day Adventist	Ellen White says God the Father exalted Jesus to be His son, thus provoking lucifer’s jealousy and a war in Heaven. Jesus is our example to prove we can live sinlessly. His sacrifice on the cross did not complete the atonement; since 1844 He has been applying His blood in heaven in an ongoing “Investigative Judgment” after which He will return. Also identified as Michael the Archangel; most Adventist founders denied Jesus’ deity.
Christian Science	Jesus was not the Christ, but a man who display the Christ idea. (“Christ” means perfection, not a person.) Jesus was not God, and God can never become a man or flesh. He did not suffer and could not suffer for sins. He did not die on the cross. He was not resurrected physically. He will not literally come back.
New Age	Jesus is not the one true God. He is not a Savior, but a spiritual model and guru, and is now an “ascended master.” He was New Ager who tapped into divine power in the same way that anyone can. Many believe He went east to India or Tibet and learned mystical truths. He did not rise physically from the dead, but “rose” in a higher spiritual realm.
Wicca	Jesus is either rejected altogether or sometimes considered a spiritual teacher who taught love and compassion.
Scientology	Jesus is rarely mentioned in Scientology. Jesus was not the Creator, nor was He an “operating thetan” (in control of supernatural power, cleared from mental defects). Jesus did not die for sins.
Islam	Jesus (Isa the Arabic) was not God or the Son of God. His virgin birth is likened to Adam’s creation. He was sinless, a worker of miracles, and one of the most respected prophets sent by Allah. He was not crucified or resurrected. He, not Muhammad, will return to play a special role before the future judgment day, perhaps turning Christians to Islam.
Nation of Islam	Officially, Jesus is a sinless prophet of Allah. Privately, Jesus was born from adultery between Mary and Joseph, who was already married to another woman. Jesus was not crucified, but stabbed in the heart by a police officer. He is still buried in Jerusalem. Prophecies of Jesus’ return refer to Master Fard, Elijah Muhammad, or to Louis Farrakhan.
Judaism	Jesus is seen either as an extremist false messiah or a good but martyred Jewish rabbi (teacher). Many Jews do not consider Jesus at all. Jews (except Messianic Jews and Hebrew Christians) do not believe He was the Messiah, Son of God, or that He rose from the dead. Orthodox Jews believe the Messiah will restore the Jewish kingdom and eventually rule the earth.
Kabbalah Centre	Jesus is not God, nor is He the Jewish Messiah (who is yet to come). Some believe Jesus was a Kabbalist Himself.
Hinduism	Jesus Christ is a teacher, a guru, or an avatar (an incarnation of Vishnu). He is a son of God as are others. His death does not atone for sins and He did not rise from the dead
Hare Krishna	Jesus in not important to this group. He is usually thought of as an enlightened vegetarian teach who taught meditation. He is not an incarnation of God. Some Krishna devotees consider Jesus to be Krishna. Others say He is a great avatar (teacher).
Sikhism	Jesus is not specifically part of this belief, although the Adi Granth specifically denies the Trinity and describes God as “beyond birth” and incarnation.
Buddhism	Jesus Christ is not part of the historic Buddhist worldview. Buddhists in the West today generally view Jesus as an enlightened teacher, while Buddhists in Asia believe Jesus is an avatar or Bodhisattva, but not God.

These are 15 examples of who people believe Jesus is.

Now consider this list.

“He (Jesus) is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created; things in Heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones of powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all thing hold together. And He is the head of the body, the church; He is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything He might have the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all His fullness dwell in Him, and through Him to reconcile to Himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through His blood, shed on the cross.” Colossians 1:15-20 (emphasis mine)

The truth of Jesus is

He is God – John 10:10, 38, 12:45 14:1-11

He is equal to God – Philippians 2:6

He is the image of the invisible God. He is the exact representation of God. He reflects God. He reveals God to us – John 1:18 14:9

He is the firstborn over all creation. He has all firstborn priority and authority. He came from Heaven – 1 Corinthians15:47

He is Lord of all – Roman 9:5, 10:11-13; Revelation1:5, 17:14.

His is completely holy – Hebrews 7:26-28 1 Peter 1:19, 2:22 1 John 3:5

He has authority to judge the world – Romans 2:16 2 Corinthians 5:10 Timothy 4:1

Jesus Christ is supreme over the entire world including the spirit world. He has no equal. He has no rival. He is coming again.

He is/was NOT-

A resurrected spirit, a created spirit child, on an investigate journey, a man who display the Christ idea, a spiritual model or guru, a mere spiritual teacher, an “operating thetan”, a prophet sent by Allah, born from adultery, stabbed by a police officer, a false messiah, a martyred rabbi, a Kabbalist, an avatar, a god among many gods, or an enlightened vegetarian.

There are some that believe that Jesus was just a man… albeit a good man. That He was not raised bodily from the dead. That He is only a prophet. That He is not the only way to heaven and that He is not coming again. Are you sure? Do you stake eternity on it?

There is a way to be sure… to be sure of your eternity.

“For God so loved the world (that’s all of us) that He gave His only begotten Son (Jesus), that whosoever (again that’s me and you) believes in Him WILL NOT PERISH by have everlasting (eternal) life”. John 3:16 (emphasis mine)

God loves you and wants to have a relationship with you. He wants to be reconciled with you. He wants you to be with Him through all eternity. However, it is our sins that have separated us.

The bible, the inerrant Word of God, says “all have sinned and have fallen short of the glory of God” Romans 8:3:23, 6:23, 1 John 1:10. If you believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved. Acts 16:31 John 1:12 Romans 10:9, Ephesians 2:8-9

The way to be free from sin and be assured of eternal life in Heaven with God is to trust Jesus Christ to take away your sins; by putting all of your confidence in Jesus alone to forgive your sins. To know and acknowledge that nothing you can do… no work so amazing, no amount of money, no speech, no gift, no amount of “good living”, church attendance, or donations… nothing… can earn your way into heaven.

You see… “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under Heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12 That name is JESUS!

His death on the Cross provided the way for all people to come to God. It cleared away the sins that keeps us from having a relationship with God. Because of Jesus Christ, we can have peace with God and be reconciled to Him by accepting Jesus Christ as our Savior. However, though Jesus took our sins upon Himself on the Cross that does not mean that we are forgiven merely because of that unselfish act. We must do our part in humbling ourselves before God. We must desire to be free from the hold that sin has on us. We must desire true and full forgiveness and desire to live eternally with Christ, dependent totally on God’s grace.

You might be saying to yourself… but you don’t know the sins in my life. They are unforgivable. That is wrong. Whether you are a murderer or a thief or an abuser or maybe you’re just a good living person that just doesn’t feel worthy of forgiveness… well the truth of that is… none of us, not one single one of us is worthy. But if you ask with a true and repentant heart… that you truly want to be free of the shame and condemnation that your sins hold on you… you can be free. You can receive God’s forgiveness.

The way to be free from sin is to trust Jesus Christ to take it away. The bible says “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.” John 14:6

Jesus Christ, the Sacrificial Lamb of Heaven, is the only way to forgiveness and eternal life. When you put your full confidence in Jesus alone to forgive our sins, to make us right with God and empower us to live the way He desires – you can be free. You can know without a doubt where you will spend eternity. You will know the truth of Jesus!
